I guess part of this blog thing is you've gotta post something. It's been way too long since my last dronings, so here goes.......

Let's start with the beach vacation over the 4th of July week. 15 of us embarked upon Ocean Isle for a week of golfing, beaching, and the associated eating and drinking festivities. I managed to get 6 rounds of golf in. This did, however impede my beach time. A fair trade off in my book.

We began the week with Carolina National. A nice track with some pretty interesting chutes from the back tees (which I played all week). Monday was the latest course at Ocean Ridge Plantation, Leopard's Chase. This Tim Cates design ate a lot of balls but was visually stunning. A great new addition to the zoo. Tuesday was Farmstead. A 672 yard par 6 teeing off in North Carolina and finishing in South Carolina is the signature hole here, need I say more. Bogeyed that one. Wednesday was a long round behind the women's league at Longbay. Jack Nicklaus is a prick! Lots of trouble in lots of places, especially where my balls tended to land.

Thursday we played Heather Glen with 70 other people in a small stakes game. My father's friend Bill invited us to play in this local weekly match. I went in thinking I would be able to walk away with some $$$, but alas, I still suck and went home $20 poorer. I hate bermuda grass greens! Friday was the pinnacle round of the week. My favorite course in the Strand (of the meager 15 that I have played), Thistle. Chef Reed met me for a relaxing round of at one of the best designed and challenging course that I have played. 12 minute tee time spacing, free range balls, complimentary green tool, a brand new clubhouse that resembles a Scottish castle, free yardage book, a stellar list of Scotch ales and whiskeys are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the laundry list of great things about this place. I scored my best round of the week here, a great way to finish the week off.

Work, it's not all it's cracked up to be

I have recently taken on a new job at a prestigious private golf course here in the Queen city. Thus, I haven't been at my computer long enough to even log into this page. Forgot my password!

This is a corporate owned facility and thought I might like to try it out. Though, I had pledged to never work at another country club years ago and most of you know of my discontent for "THE MAN". Perhaps it's time for me to grow up and try to move up the ladder in corporate America as some of you have done so successfully. I was promoted to "Lead Bartender" (what a bullshit title!) within the first week of my employment. I rock! Compensation has yet to follow. Is this common practice in corporate America?

I believe that I have joined the ranks of you who hate their job. I really liked my last two jobs. My better half was jealous of how much I liked going to work most days. Now, she dreads my dronings of incompetence, unprofessionalism, and apparently boring tales of the disarray upon my arrival home from 12 hour shifts. Yes, I now work 50+ hours a week and am not happy about it. Neither is Lauren, hot dinner after work for her has become a scarce occurrence.

You might think, "Well, glad to see Moose has a job". So far the only redeeming value is the free golf at a sick, sick course. I did happen to shoot 86 with 3 triple bogeys my first time. We won't discuss the following rounds.

The job hunt continues..........

It was a sad day in our household yesterday. Meat has basked in her last sunbeam. She had been fighting numerous illnesses for the past few years and the time came to make the call that nobody wants to make. She was a resilient animal, having lived with me for 19 long years. Who would have thought that an animal under my supervision would live so long. She went on roadtrips, partied like a rockstar with my friends, and was great companion. Her retirement here in the South has been much enjoyed. "Miss Meat" will be missed greatly.

Here's one for you bleeding heart liberals....you know who you are.

Weekend at Moose's

Mac has turned 40. So in celebrations of this epic event Dana took him on a surprise weekend vacation to the Queen City.

It started with a tremendous Friday evening dinner at Blue. I never like to order the same items at a restaurant, I want to try it all, but on this eve I ordered the Duo of Wild Boar and Bread Pudding, again .....OUTSTANDING!! Lauren even ate the stuffed peppers on her dish. A couple of cocktails and three bottles of wine later and we a were a fat and happy bunch. Thanks to Scott for hooking up the comp on the apps and cocktails!

Saturday I donned my overalls and we set out to find buried treasure at Emerald Hollow. The weather was not so great when we got there but it cleared up shortly after our arrival. However the 39 degree weather and cold water sluicing are not great together.

We briefly dug for riches. Deciding that carrying buckets of wet carolina clay 500 yards out of the woods was not the way to go. Purchasing the pre filled buckets was, clearly, the way to go. Pizza, beer, pitch, and passing out followed.

Sunday was Mac's surprise trip to Lowe's Motor Speedway for some laps in a Sprint Cup Car at the Jeff Gordon School of Racing.

Half a racing suit and a crowbar to get him in the car, and Mac was off for 8 laps around the 1.5 mile oval.

Clearly there were some serious drugs and alcohol involved in this decision. I guess is could be worse. And what's with the barcode on his jeans? Rentals, or is this what the kids are doing these days.

So here's another one of those investigative reports that seems to have some validity. I can tell you from experience that the fruit in your cocktail is seldom washed before slicing. Washed is a relative term as well. Rinsed would be more appropriate. I figure that the alcohol in the drink neutralizes any bacteria. Especially if I made it. I can't be so sure of any bacterial demise in the sweet tea I had yesterday, though. I will assure you that I will not change my summertime drink order from Absolut Citron, tonic, and lime.

Let's face it though, we all eat shit at some point in our lives. Some of us more than others.

I read today that 43% of Americans have watched a television show on their computer. I figured that since i have never partaken of this new video revolution, I would do so today. In my infinite juvenile wisdom, I downloaded this "Rob and Big" episode "Poop in the pool". Here is a clip. The whole episode is on Itunes for free.

I have officially set up your link to the happenings of Moose, Lauren, and Meat. I don't think that I do a great job at keeping in touch with everybody so I have gone the route of the blog. It's what all the kids are doing. Our recent household technical advances such as an MP3 player (clearly I'm not cool enough to have an Ipod yet) and an Imac have prompted this revelation. Reading Beth's blog on a regular basis for years has inspired me as well.

I have a lot of pictures that not a lot of you have seen. This is where you can check 'em out. Don't worry, nothing too incriminating.
